PC-BSD News Update:PBI Builder, Security Update and Pootle Translation

The PC-BSD Project has been pretty busy as of late. The team has enhanced PC-BSD security by releasing a new patch as of 10/05. They also released a new version of PBI (push-button-installer)Builder as well as working on Pootle for PC-BSD.

The security update for PC-BSD 7.1.1 was released on 10/05/09. This  update fixes a potential privilege escalation attack with devfs / vfs in the default kernel. It affects users of both i386 and amd64 versions of PC-BSD. More information can be found at the PC-BSD Announcement page.

The PBI Builder Version 2.4 release was a  small update to the PBI Builder software. This version, released on 9/30, adds a few new variables to the module creation process, which allows developers to pick “target” ports they wish to have autopopulated and added to the resulting PBI file. For full details, please take a look at the changelog, and the wiki page.

And the most exciting news is that Pootle for PC-BSD is now available. According to the Pootle web site:

Pootle is a user-friendly web portal that makes the translation process so much simpler. It allows online translation, work assignment, gives statistics and allows easy volunteer contribution.

If you would like to contribute to the project, more information can be found at the Pootle for PC-BSD page as well as the [Translations] for PC-BSD Mailing list.
